Road Map To Make Career In Design And Fea Analysis

Road Map To Make Career In Design And Fea Analysis

Being a mechanical Engineer we are passionate about machines, we like to see them working, we like to handle them, we like to operate them….and above all we Love to Design them. Working in product design for well known organization has always been a dream of every Mechanical Engineer from the day we admit in Engineering College. It’s always very fascinating to be part of a team designing the vehicle we travel in, design constructing equipment we see on road, design a machine producing product in seconds, designing product we use day in and day out and many more.
Career in Product Design is one of the best, providing good work life, high salary growth, ample of opportunities, highly technical work, opportunity for product innovation etc.
But getting into it is not as easy as it was before 2015. Nowadays Industries are expecting advance technical and software Skills from Fresh Engineers. And most of the fresh graduate are lacking in it due to various reason. Few to mention, our curriculum is far behind Industrial requirement, technologies used in Industries are way ahead of what we learn in our subjects. Evaluation process had become very lenient. Labs are not updated with latest equipment, Practical’s are not taken so seriously and our guides/mentors are lacking platform to update their skills and hence are failing to pass on to fresh engineers.
But if you desire to become a Design Engineer / CAE Engineer you have to come forward living behind the entire lacuna in our education system and make a road map to reach your goal.

OLLOW BELOW STEPS AND PREPARE YOUR ROAD MAP

Step 1- Revise Fundamental of Engineering
If you are undergraduate don’t sell your books after examination, they are assets for engineers. Keep reading at least first 3-4 pages of each chapter periodically and if you have already done that start making short notes in your diary of relevant subjects – Engineering Drawing, Engineering Mechanics, Strength of Material, Theory of Machine, Machine Design, Finite Element Analysis to name few. Keep these notes handy, refer them on regular basis and let your mind link fundamental with real time application. This small exercise on daily bases will make you strong enough to clear your technical interview and also it will make easy for you to tackle and provide solution to ongoing task in your professional life
Revision of Fundamentals is a continues process should be practiced while learning Basic, Advance, and continued at least till you get Job

Step 2- Learn Basic of one, two or max three CAD/CAE Software
Basic of CAD includes Sketcher, Part Modelling, Assembly and Drafting.
Basic of CAE includes Pre-processor – Geometry Creation, Geometry Clean Up, Meshing – 1D, 2D, 3D, Connections, Quality Check and Appling Boundary Condition.
Your learning should not be limited to knowing software commands. You should be capable of using the right command on right time while sketching, modelling, assembly or drafting at a desire speed.
Your learning should Include Practical Example.
Basic can be learned during your graduation or after graduation, it is expected a candidate should do more than 300 Hr of hands-on Practice after completion of course.
Engineers good with basic of CAD are eligible to take up positions in organization designing Jig & Fixture, Tool and Die, Industrial Equipments etc.

# You can learn Basic of CAD or CAE Software thoroughly either through our E-learning Training Course or from Experts through our Live Training Course.

What Not to Do: Don’t try to learn bundle of 5 to 6 software, software are very evanescent, by the time you start learning 4th software you will start forgetting what you have learned in 1st software and vice versa.

Step 3 – Learn Advance CAD/CAE Software

Knowledge in Advance Software with Domain is the minimum requirement of today’s Industries.

In this era of high competition Industries are not in position to spend time on training fresh graduates, they prefer candidates with hands-on on Advance software and Domain Knowledge relevant to the product they design and manufacture.
Advance Software Includes feature like – Non- parametric to parametric Conversion, Close Volume, Generative Shape Design, Master section Etc.
Select any one software after market research and go for advance training. Market research can be done by using Job Portals & software user analysis
Advance should be learned during your final semester of graduation or immediately after completing your final year exams. It is expected a candidate should do more than 800 Hours of hands-on Practice after completion of course on Advance feature and Domain.
There is Huge Required of Skilled Engineer with Advance knowledge and Domain in Industries like – Automotive, Aviation, Marine, Home Appliances, Construction Equipment, Heavy Industries etc.
# You can learn Advance of CAD or CAE Software thoroughly from Experts through our Live Training Course or by our Class training at G2G Innovation.

Step 4 – Domain
Basic idea behind learning the software is either to design a product or do FEA Analysis of the product.

In order to Design/Analyse a product we should have knowledge of the material used in the product. Here comes the domain knowledge into picture, If you are interested to Design Product made of Plastic, you should have Plastic Domain Knowledge. Now question arises what is the thing included in plastic domain? And the answer is very simple –
Knowledge on – Different Types of Engineering Plastic, Engineering Plastics used in Products, Properties of those Plastic, Manufacturing Processor of Product made of those Plastic, Manufacturing Constrain, Design Methodology, Design Constrains, Failure Mode etc.
Few other Domains are – Sheetmetal, Foam, Casting etc
You should learn at least one domain and it should be done along with Advance Software Training
If you learn Plastic Domain you will be potential candidate for getting jobs in Automotive (Interior, Exterior), Aviation (Interior, Exterior), Marine (Interior, Exterior), and Home Appliance (Interior, Exterior) Industries.
Learning Sheet metal Domain will make you potential candidate for getting jobs in Automotive (Exterior, BIW, Chassis, Exhaust System), Aviation (Exterior, BIW, Exhaust System), Marine (Exterior, Exhaust System), Home Appliance (Exterior) Heavy Industries, and Construction Equipment Industries.
Casting Domain will make you potential candidate for getting jobs in Automotive (Engine, Gear Box, Breaks), Aviation (Engine, Propeller, Transmission), Marine (Engine, Propeller, Transmission), Heavy Industries, and Construction Equipment Industries.
Foam Domain will make you potential candidate for getting jobs in Automotive (Seating System) , Aviation (Seating System), Marine (Seating System).

Step 5 – Design Standards, GD&T & Standard Industrial Practices
Design Standards- Each Product design / Analysis is done following some standards. (For Example-Vehicle Seating System design is done following “AIS 016 and AIS023” standards) An engineer will not be able to design a product without following standards, even if some can make it possible the product will not get approval from governing bodies hence it mandatory for them to know the standards that are to be followed to design their desired products.
GD&T – Drawing is a document use to communicate product design & details to various department and GD&T play a very important role in it.  Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing is a system for defining and communicating engineering tolerances. It uses a symbolic language on engineering drawings and computer-generated three-dimensional solid models that explicitly describe nominal geometry and its allowable variation.
Standard Industry Practice means the practices, methods, techniques, designs, standards, skills, diligence, efficiency, reliability and prudence that are developed and recorded by Industries from years of learning through their success and failure experience. And now those are followed and practice to get best result in short time and avoid failure.
Learning all this will really make you an eligible candidate to take up position in Design/FEA Analysis.
Now question arises from where should I learn? And the answer is simple- get training from Industrial Experts / Do Internship/ Work on real time projects.

Step 6 – Hands-On Product Design / FEA Analysis
Getting hand-on experience on Product Design can be a game changer for your career.
Here you will be able to practically implement all the knowledge gain while learning basic, advance, domain & standards. You will learn how, where and when to apply your skill. This will boost your skill and make you highly potential candidate to take up a position in any organization.
Now most of you may have question- How to get hands-on product Design / FEA Analysis?
To get hands-on on Product Design / FEA Analysis you have to either get an Internship in an organization engaged in Product Design / FEA Analysis or you should get training from Organization/Institutes engage in Product Design/FEA Analysis and Training Both.
Hands-On Product Design / FEA Analysis should be done along with Advance training during your final semester of graduation or immediately after completing your final year exams. It is expected a candidate should do at least one full product design or its FEA Analysis.

It is advice to prepare your own road make considering all above steps with a time line of maximum 6 months.
We welcome candidates looking for career in Design or FEA Analysis at G2G Innovation.
We at G2G Innovation & CAD CAM CAE ACADEMY are engage in Product Design / FEA Analysis and also we train candidates through our team of Industrial Experts on Real Time Industrial Projects making them competitive enough to get job in their desired industries.
